Shawn woke up and got ready in record-breaking time this morning, in
spite of the fact that we slept a little longer than I had intended. We
wanted to get to Home Depot for a kids' workshop before they ran out of
the free project kits. Work stations were set up outside (not their
usual place, but we figured out why later) and we could hear hammering
from the parking lot. The project was a fire rescue airplane. We were
able to put the plane together very easily. I assisted Shawn by
(nervously) holding the pieces still while he hammered. He decided to
just use the included decals to decorate his plane and opted out of
painting it. (A-ok by me!)
Just as we were finishing
the project a real, live fire truck pulled up right behind us! (Ah-ha!
Now the outside set-up made sense!) Kids got to climb through the fire
truck to see what was inside. A very kind firefighter helped Shawn get
down when he was done. The fire fighters handed out coloring books and
sticker badges. When we were all done, Shawn went to the main table to
retrieve his special project pin, certificate, some activity pages, AND a
bonus mini Lego fire rescue truck!
We keep losing the pins that accompany each project, so Shawn and I
agreed that we need to find a better way to keep them instead of simply
pinning to the Home Depot workshop apron. No one else seems to have this
problem. We see kids' aprons practically dripping with project pins.
We've only attended 3 workshops, but we lost the first pin on our way to
our car minutes after getting it; the second pin fell off this morning,
but luckily Shawn found it in his carseat - before he sat down. He
won't be dripping with pins any time soon!
Since we got
ready so quickly this morning, I realized we skipped breakfast!
Practically across the street from Home Depot was The Great American
Bagel shop. Shawn had a chocolate chip bagel with plain cream cheese and
I had a 10 grain & honey bagel with egg and cheese. Lilly tried her
hardest to steal bites, but reluctantly settled for her Zwieback toast
instead.
